仙台市内、国道沿いに位置する元新聞社印刷工場の建物をシェアオフィスへ転用するプロジェクト。中心市街地から離れたロードサイド型のシェアオフィスのあり方を考えた。
運送会社が運営をするということで、シェアオフィス内部にストックのための大きな倉庫や配送のためのヤードを抱え込んでいる。物流業のノウハウを活かした物流サポートをおこない、ビジネスインキュベーションの核としても機能する「人と物を動かすシェアフィス」を構想している。その特異性に呼応した空間を目指した。
元印刷工場・倉庫の大きいヴォリュームを生かし、物の保管から流通までの機能を内包する大きく使えるシェアオフィスを考えた。「モノのための空間」から「人のための空間」への転用である。今回は、第1期工事としてもともと事務所やシャワー室として利用されていた区画をワークスペースとし、タイヤの保管庫となっていた区画を大きなイベントスペースにリノベーションしている。
ワークスペース区画では既存の廊下壁位置を境界に外壁側である西側のみ、天井を解体、幅8m高さ5m奥行き30mの大きながらんどうをつくり、外壁におおきく窓を開け光を取り入れた。その中に必要最小限の管理用事務所およびトイレを内包した箱を配置している。境界から東側の各個室が入るゾーンに置いては既存壁および天井を極力残し、コストを抑えている。
がらんどうの中のフリーデスクスペースやラウンジ、固定デスクスペースといった諸機能については専用の木製家具ユニットによって緩やかに分節を行い担保した。このユニットはレゴブロックのように簡単に再配置・再構成可能なW910/D455/H388mmの三次元に展開された、いわば人のためのパレットのようなものである。積む高さや配置、一番上にかぶせる天板の種類によってベンチやプランター、カウンター、棚およびパーティションなど様々な機能を持たせることができる。140という余剰を持った数量を確保するために、1×4材とマツの角材による極力簡素なつくりにした。
イベントスペース区画は天井を抜き設備配管をすべて撤去、更新・整理配列をし直した。床は黒い長尺シートにワックスを強めにかけ光沢を強調し、他の部屋とは異なる非日常感を際立たせた。
設計と並行してロゴデザイン、コンセプトムービー、WEBデザインも行なっている。

This is a project to convert a former newspaper printing factory building located along a national highway in Sendai City into a shared office. The idea was to create a roadside shared office away from the city center.
As the building is managed by a transportation company, the shared office has a large warehouse for stock and a yard for delivery. We envisioned a "shared office that moves people and goods" that would provide logistics support using the know-how of a logistics company and also function as a core for business incubation. We aimed to create a space that corresponds to this singularity.
Taking advantage of the large volume of the former printing factory and warehouse, we conceived a large, usable shared office that encompasses functions from storage to distribution. It is a conversion from a "space for things" to a "space for people". In the first phase of the project, a section that was originally used as an office and shower room was converted into a workspace, and a section that was used as a tire storage facility was renovated into a large event space.
In the workspace section, the ceiling was dismantled only on the west side of the exterior wall, bordering the existing corridor wall, to create a large corridor 8m wide, 5m high, and 30m deep, with large windows on the exterior wall to let in light. A large window was opened on the exterior wall to let in light, and a box containing the minimum necessary administrative offices and toilets was placed inside. The existing walls and ceilings are left as much as possible in the zone where each private room is located on the east side from the boundary to keep the cost down.
Various functions, such as free desk space, lounge, and fixed desk space, are secured by a special wooden furniture unit that gently divides the space. This unit is a kind of palette for people, which can be easily rearranged and reconfigured like Lego blocks, and is developed in three dimensions of W910/D455/H388mm. In order to secure the extra quantity of 140, we made it as simple as possible using 1×4 lumber and pine cubes.
In the event space section, the ceiling was removed and all the equipment and pipes were removed, updated, and rearranged. The floor is made of long black sheets, heavily waxed to emphasize the glossy finish, and to emphasize the unusual feeling that distinguishes this room from the others.
In parallel with the design, I also designed the logo, concept movie, and website.
