Interior design of an otolaryngology clinic to be housed in a newly constructed medical building. The client chose a location along a street in front of the station, which attracts many customers, and requested a space that would be familiar to men and women of all ages in this area. In order to see a large number of patients within the limited clinic hours, we planned a lean flow line to shorten the time spent outside of the clinic. The otorhinolaryngology department requires patients to move around the hospital in the order of reception, examination, treatment, and reception, so the plan called for clarifying the order and shortening the time needed to move around.

The theme of this project was to create a space that would provide comfort and a sense of security as patients, from children to the elderly, repeatedly stand, walk, and sit. In this design, instead of creating a middle waiting area for patients waiting for treatment after their consultation, which is usually used in clinics where patients undergo treatment, we attempted to provide an environment with natural light without feeling oppressive by integrating the waiting rooms for each phase into a linear L-shaped space. The waiting area is arranged to provide direct access to the reception area, examination rooms, and treatment rooms. The wooden partition walls, which reach from floor to ceiling and are visible as an elevation, give warmth to a medical facility with a unique sense of tension, while bringing rhythm and a sense of place to the waiting space. The partition wall and the rounded hanging wall visualize the depth of the L-shaped plan of the waiting area and encourage people to walk through.
